The Diploma in Probation Studies is the professional qualification which confers probation officer status on successful trainees, subject to employment by a probation board. It is delivered through the consortium working with higher education institutions and NVQ assessment centres. TPOs are paid a training salary with the programmes leading to the diploma normally being completed within 24 months.
