Community Payback Pioneer Project

Trans Pennine Trail

The Halton Trans Pennine Trail was the winning project as chosen by members of the public in the recent Justice Seen, Justice Done campaign.

The Halton section of this Trail is designed to be used, not just by walkers, but also to be enjoyed by cyclists and horse riders and in some parts, by wheelchair users.  It is therefore important that it remains accessible for everyone along its entirety and to achieve this, some sections of the Trail require regular maintenance.

Sections of the Trail, generally beyond the picnic tables, had become "no-go" areas due to overgrown vegetation, fly tipping, vandalism and signs of antisocial behaviour.

The Halton Community Payback team worked alongside the countryside rangers and local volunteers to reclaim those sections of the Trail that are in danger of being lost.  They cut back shrubs and cleared overgrown areas, removed rubbish and cleaned up graffiti and ensured that fences, signage and notice boards were fit for purpose.

The finished project has ensured that the Halton section of this marathon 350 mile Trail (which runs from the east coast in Hull to the west coast in Southport) and has provided a safe, pleasant and welcoming environment for visitors passing through on this leg of their journey and for the residents of Halton to use, enjoy and be proud of.
