Local Crime: Community Sentence (LCCS)
23 Jul 2009
The Local Crime: Community Sentence (LCCS) Project was created through a partnership between the Probation Boards' and the Magistrates' Associations. It involves pairs of Cheshire Magistrates and Probation staff going out into the community to give interactive presentations (approx 1 hour) to community groups.
The presentations, which are approximately one hour in duration, have been given to a range of community groups including Rotaries, Women's Institutes, 6th form Colleges and a Parish Council. The presentations are interactive, with the audience learning more about how offenders are sentenced in the local courts and how they are then supervised by the Probation Service. The events have been well received with feedback including:
"The event was excellently presented and has gone a long way towards de-mystifying the court and probation processes".
"It went brilliantly! The students enjoyed the presentation and it was very interesting and informative, particularly as the presenters really engaged the students in the role play".
"It was enlightening to have the opportunity to discuss a case study and appreciate how circumstances can mitigate the outcome".
