MAPPA

The Probation Service in Cheshire works in partnership with the Cheshire Constabulary and other agencies and organisations in Cheshire, Halton and Warrington to ensure that the risks posed to members of the public by the more dangerous elements of society are minimised.

The Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) began operating in April 2001.  MAPPA places a duty on the Probation Service, the Police and the Prison Service, together with other key agencies, to assess and manage risks posed by offenders. The roles and responsibilities of each of the partner agencies in managing these dangerous individuals are laid out in these arrangements and define the way in which Multi-Agency Public Protection Panels (MAPPPs) work.

In Cheshire, the following agencies and organisations are involved in MAPPA:

  • Probation Service ( Cheshire)
  • Cheshire Constabulary
  • The North West Prison Service
  • Local Authority Youth Offending Teams
  • The four Unitary Local Authorities of Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton and Warrington
  • Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Trust and 5 Borough NHS Trust
  • Central and Eastern Cheshire, Western Cheshire, Halton & St Helen’s and Warrington Primary Care Trusts
  • Cheshire and Merseyside Specialised Services Commissioning Team
